Parent Child Cyber Defense Workshop

Are you a Parent or Guardian who is:

  • Unsure of how to best protect the children in your care online?

  • Worried about social media, apps and online games on your child's device?

  • Overwhelmed by technology in general or just need a refresher?

If you feel like this, we can help you through the learning process by providing accurate and trustworthy information in everyday terms that are easy to understand.

The Learn Online Security Process

  • Your in-person or virtual training programs give you knowledge and skills.

  • Your child's in-person or virtual training program gives them knowledge and skills.

  • You and your child now understand how your child is being socially engineered.

  • Parents and children now protect themselves, their family, and their community.

How you as a parent can protect your children on and offline

Hey everybody. I’m Chris, the IT Director and Head Instructor with Learn Online Security. Whenever we would be teaching a course or out in public, we would be always asked by parents what they could do to protect their children online. Or we would be asked how can we talk to our kids when they won’t listen to us?

Because we are Mom and Dad “we don’t understand!”

We get it! Small secret everybody at Learn Online Security is associated with a youth of some sort way. So, we listened and focused on a dedicated Learn Online Security program for parents and their children.

Educating your children about online safety is just as important as educating yourself.

In today’s digital world, a “parent only” solution is no longer adequate to protect you and your family from online dangers.  We need to reach the kids as well. In a way that has meaning to them.

Our program is unique. Regardless of age, we educate the parents separately from the children. Focusing on parental controls and concerns that they bring to the groups.  Then we format the kids' portion of the program depending on age. The tweens to teens are given an environment with their own instructor. No parents allowed! So, they have their own sense of privacy and can express their own concerns in their own space. And yes, their own instructor. Not the parents' instructor.  The preschool to elementary children. They have the same child focused instructor, but we include the parents, so the message stays consistent and clear all the way home. Funny how the kids take every opportunity to tell Mom and Dad “they said”

We use easy to understand language. That is age appropriate while using real world examples in an interactive and engaging environment. Honestly, I’m amazed how our kids' instructors can relate to the kids on their terms, in their space and keep it fun.

All the instructors at Learn Online Security look forward to working with you and your children, while learning to secure and protect your online experiences.

Come have some fun and support at an event near you.
- Chris

Interesting, I need more information!

"I am just wanting to give my opinion on the Parent course that you had put on for an online security for Parents. I found it really interesting and helpful with a few things. I have downloaded a parent app and now have more control over what my child can do on her phone. Overall it was very informative."

Tara

Does your child want
their own device?

Charlie often took her phone with her to her Grandma's place after school.  Her Mom loved the comfort of knowing that Charlie could always contact her if there was an emergency.  What her Mom didn't realize was that Charlie's phone what not setup with parental controls.

Charlie began messaging with a boy her age on a site her Mom would have denied her access to at home. Eventually, it was discovered that the boy she was corresponding with was actually a man trying to recruit Charlie into a gang and sex-trafficking. Her Mom and Grandma were shocked!

Smiling Dad helps happy daughter with her laptop.

Before you give a child their own devices, obtain the knowledge and skills to set your child up for success.

This terrible situation could have been completely avoided if the proper steps were taken before the phone was given to Charlie to begin with.

Stories like this happen every day in neighbourhoods just like yours.

At LearnOnlineSecurity.com, we are focused on changing the world through Social Engineering Security education. We can teach you about the methods and dangers of Social Engineering. Social Engineering is the art of manipulating people to gain access to information, systems, or resources and sometimes people.

Senior Cyber Defense Workshop

Security starts with seniors like you!

Have you ever clicked an email that turned out to be a scam…

Only to find out it was a test—sent by your own employer or volunteer coordinator to see if you'd fall for it?

You're not alone.
And no, you're not "bad with technology."
You're not too old to learn.
You're not a liability—you’re a potential lifeline.

At Learn Online Security, we believe something different:

  • You are the first line of defense.
  • Wisdom comes with age.
  • With the right tools, you can safeguard yourself, your family, and your entire community from online threats.

Let Us Help You

The Learn Online Security Process

  • A person icon teaching a course.

Your in-person or virtual training programs give you knowledge and skills

  • Person Icon with taget behind head in a sketch.

You now understand how you are being socially engineered.

  • Three people all standing under an umbrella

You can now protect yourself, your family, and your community.

Your Wisdom. Your Voice. Your Community.

Protecting Our Families Starts with You.
— From Sarah Howells, Learn Online Security

Hello there,

I’m Sarah Howells, part of the Learn Online Security team—and today, I want to talk to you not just as individuals, but as pillars of your communities.

You’ve spent a lifetime looking out for others—your children, your grandchildren, your neighbors. And in today’s fast-moving digital world, your role is more important than ever.

We know the internet can be overwhelming, and sometimes even a little scary. Scams, misinformation, digital bullying, identity theft—it’s a lot. But here's the thing: when seniors are informed and empowered, the whole community benefits.

When seniors are informed and empowered, the whole community benefits.

That’s why we created the Senior Cyber Defense Workshop—a practical, judgment-free program designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools to protect yourself and help safeguard those around you.

Senior man surfing internet on smartphone

Whether you’re attending in person or joining virtually from home, you’ll learn:

  • How to spot online scams before they reach your inbox or phone
  • How to protect your identity, bank info, and privacy
  • How to support your children and grandkids online—even if they “don’t want to listen”
  • How to become a trusted voice of reason in your circle, church, or neighborhood

We break it all down in simple language. No tech lingo. No fear. Just real-world examples, engaging instructors, and a whole lot of community spirit.

And here’s the beautiful part: when you show up—when you ask questions, share your wisdom, and take the lead—you inspire the next generation to do the same. You become the reason someone else feels safe enough to speak up or ask for help.

So whether you’re a grandma who wants to understand what your grandkids are doing online, a retired teacher who still loves helping others, or a senior looking to stay sharp and secure, we need you.

Come be part of something bigger. Let’s protect our homes, our families, and each other—together.

Join us at the next Senior Cyber Defense Workshop, in-person or online.
Fun, support, and a strong sense of purpose included.

With gratitude,
Sarah Howells
